In the six weeks since he opened his new venture, Richi Peters has only heard good things.

Richi, 41, is the director of Black Lodge Brewery's West Kirby taproom, which opened at the end of March. The taproom is Black Lodge's second venue, adding to its Baltic Triangle base.

The brewery was founded in 2015 and brews its range of craft beer from its site on Kings Dock Street. After finding success in the Baltic, opening another venue had long been on the agenda for the brewery.

The West Kirby taproom, found on Banks Road in the Wirral town, opened at the end of March. The brewery took over what was previously a bar called Blind Pig and has put its own spin on the venue.

The taproom is set over two floors - its main area downstairs and a smaller 'tasting room' upstairs. In keeping with the brewery's name, it has a black colour scheme, though there are yellow accents throughout.

For beer drinkers, there are 11 taps and three cask lines serving Black Lodge's ales. Those who don't drink beer need not fear - it also offers a range of cocktails and wines.

Richi, who hails from Meols, is delighted to be up and running with the new taproom. From the bar's upstairs 'tasting room, he told the ECHO: "I got involved at first because I loved the beer, it's a great brewery. Hundred Dollar Volvo (Black Lodge's pale ale) probably cost me a lot in lockdown and that was the reason for coming into it. That was very much the first statement beer that got me.

"I ordered a lot of it - within reason - during lockdown. It got me through lockdown and the opportunity came around to invest shortly after. It was with a
